    Overview

    Solving such global crises of climate change, the loss of biodiversity, air, land, and water pollution requires us to develop new and deeper ways of connecting with the earth and with each other.  The cure will require dramatic changes in energy use, technology, government policies, and basic human behavior.  For many, this will require tapping into spiritual experiences, values, communities, and cultivating a new sense of purpose and hope.

    This retreat will bring together environmental leaders, spiritual teachers, clergy, educators, and the general public to share the spiritual insights and practices that can provide a foundation for environmental activism and sustainable living.

    America’s religious institutions are uniquely positioned to provide leadership in this movement for sustainability.  Drawing on ancient ethical, spiritual, and scriptural sources, churches, synagogues, and temples can adopt solar and other energy efficient technologies to neutralize their need for carbon-based energy and actually become positive energy distributors into the nation’s electrical grid.  Their example will send a powerful message about how people of faith and spirit can become positive examples and change-agents towards green building and sustainable living.

    Join us for a weekend of renewal, inspiration and cross-pollination as we share ritual, stories and insights into how to better apply spiritual values to the critical issues of our time. Looking through the lenses of Native American elders, and hearing the perspectives from Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islamic, and Jewish spirituality, we will explore how these rich traditions can help create a foundation for environmentally sustainable ways of living.

     The program will include:

  • Presentations by respected spiritual and environmental leaders
  • In-depth discussions between participants and leaders
  • Experiential Sessions
  • Ways to apply this environmental and spiritual wisdom in our personal and professional lives.

    Our Goals are to:

    • Create alliances between environmental activists, policy makers, faith leaders, religious institutions, and people of faith and spirit to achieve sustainable carbon footprints for religious institutions and individuals;
    • Help churches, synagogues, and temples to adopt sustainable environmental practices as  essential spiritual and religious commitments;
    • Help all participants to become environmental change-agents in their communities.
