This is an excellent article by Cynthia. Cynthia makes an important distinction here that elevates “mystical” beyond “woowoo.” Her approach will provide a good basis for an “interspiritual” discussion.

Julian writes about how people can use many means in prayer but that this is not needed. I try to avoid the words ‘mystic’, ‘mysticism’ because it is Pseudo-Dionysius’ word, along with ‘hierarchy’ – which he invents. Instead I prefer ‘contemplative’, ‘contemplation’, as open to all rather than an elite, your point here on ‘Silent Sufis’. Julian grounds contemplation on love, not technique. the love of one’s ‘even-Christian’, of Everyone. Which is Christ’s rhythm, of prayer on the mountain, then the healing of so many ills on the plain. I remember a haiku by a Black prisoner, about ‘plucking gems from graves’. And how Dante’s vision of God in the Paradiso is to see him ‘as if painted in our image’, we being created in his, a mirroring of even-Christianity.
